Creative Spice Rack Ideas & What to do With the Old Ones 1-8-17

This week we're going to be talking about spice racks. If you're like me then you have more spices and ingredients then you know what to do with. My kitchen at home has no wall mounted cabinets so I had to get creative for spice storage. I took the easy route and used an old crate. No picture of my new rack but I have included some ideas to get your started on creating your own unique spice rack and what to do with the old one when you are done.

The first and easiest is using an old bottle crate that already has lots of dividers. Get matching jars or mix and match for an even more eclectic style.
Old crates with brand names evoke some great nostalgia.

Coca Cola crates seem to be the most popular but any old bottle crate will work well.

This one doesn't have bottle slots but works great.

I really like this beaker style spice rack. Vintage beakers are almost as easy to find as new ones and look phantastic. You can use any piece of wood to mount the clasps but old coat hooks or key racks work great.

Old chafing dishes are everywhere. There are tons left over from the silver plate era that has come and gone. Most originally included a nice Pyrex or Corningware glass oven to table insert. Those will never go out of style so take the insert out and make the stands into a two shelf spice rack.

You can also reuse old cookie tins and or bread boxes. Just remove the top and mount it directly to the wall and viola, you have a small spice rack. I would need some more space but this is a good place to start, especially if you combine it with an old crate.

Old general store display shelves can give your spices a very vintage look.

This is my personal favorite and in my opinion the most creative of the spice racks that I have found. Old damaged and out of tune acoustic guitars can be found for relativity cheap. Just remove the face and add some shelving.

And of course you can use an old pallet for a spice rack. You can use old pallets for almost anything.

Now that you've created a spice rack that is truly yours the question is, "what do I do with my old one?" Here are a couple ideas on reusing that now defunct spice rack.

Have a revolving spice rack? Fill those old jars with your supplies for crafting, sewing or whatever your heart desires.

They also make a great shelf for makeup or other beauty products.
