Going off the Palette: Part Two - Spring Is Right Around the Corner

With spring right around the corner our thoughts are stuck on bright colors, especially green. Today we're going to be refinishing an old oval frame that has definitely seen better days. Over half of the frames we get on consignment are gold, I don't know about you but I'm not too big on gold. We thought that this frame was too dark and too gold for the painting in side, so I'm going to give it the same taste of spring we got last week.

Supplies that I'm going to be using today:

  • Aubusson Blue
  • English Yellow
  • Small paint brush
  • Small mixing bowl
  • 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon
  • Old White - Not pictured

For my base coat I wanted to make a dark Sage Green. To create this custom color I mixed one part of English Yellow to one part of Aubusson Blue.

Be excited when you paint!!

With the first coat down. It was a little darker in person.

My next step was to put a white wash coat of old white. I took two parts of Old White and mixed it with one part of water.

To achieve this look I actually pushed the watered down Old White across the frame. To do this paint the paint on and then push the excess off with the bristles first.

It still needs a coat of clear wax but the color is set.

As you can see it's much brighter and much much springier.

Ariel approves!!
